Giving

Giving
Do you give in church or to a ministry because you understand the Word of God and how it applies to your life? Are you excited when it is time to give?

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44 (NIV)

We know that God does not need our money because he has the whole world and everything in it. The Word says that we are to trust and have faith in Him to provide for us and take care of our needs. The Bible tells us that He gives us the power to get wealth.

Deuteronomy 8:18

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.(NIV)

When you give, ask yourself what is your motivation for your giving? Is it to please God or is it to impress the pastor or church members? Do you give only when it is going to be announced openly or written in a program?

Whether you are a seasoned and mature christian or new in your faith walk remember to walk in obedience and faith following the example that was given us in Jesus Christ. Give out of love.

As you read Mark 12:41-44 it is revealed that Jesus was not impressed by the large amounts given in the offering but by the few copper coins that caught His attention because it was given with the right attitude and spirit. Do you make God smile when you give? Search your heart the next time you prepare your tithing envelope or make a donation and ask yourself are you being obedient and giving with the right spirit and would God be pleased.

God Bless!
