The second book in the The 39 Clues series is "One False Note" by Gordon Korman. This is a great opportunity for your homeschooler to experience two different wiritng styles, from the first book by Rick Riordan, and this sequel. Below you will find assignment ideas for Spelling and Language Arts that go along with this exciting book.

Here are some activities for your child to do using their spelling words~
-Define all of the words
-Find a synonym for each word in the Thesaurus
-Write a sentence clearly telling what each word means.
-Choose a character in "One False Note" that can be described using one of the spelling words. Write a paragraph about that character using the word you chose.

Comprehension questions are key to assesing your child's understanding of the material. Here are some questions you can ask based on chapters 1-10.
1.What type of memory does Dan Cahill have? (answer-photographic)
2.Why was Saldin scratching his neck? (answer- due to a tracking device)
3.Why did the monks chase Dan and Amy? (answer-they took their recipe)
4.Who was spying on Amy and Dan? (answer-Mr. McIntyre)
5.How did Amy and Dan get discovered in Jonah's hotel room? (answer-they broke a chair)

Writing prompts are natrual extensions for this series of books. Please find below five different writing prompts based on "One False Note". You can adapt them to varied ages and abilities as needed.
1.Would you rather have a memory like Dan, or book smarts like Amy? Why or why not?
2.Write a character description of Jonah Wizard. Do you think famous people are like him?
3.Is it fair that Nannerl Mozart never received recognition for her musical talents and work? Why or why not?
4.Have you met the Madrigals in the story yet? If so, who do you think they are? If you don't think they have been revealed yet, who do you think they will be?
5.How is Rick Riordan's writing style different from the writing style of Gordan Korman? How is it the same?
