Knitting
I began knitting my life together in 1997, and I have never been the same! I love the calm and creativity that knitting provides, and I also adore being able to make clothing and gifts for myself and for the ones I love.

Because I live in Southern California but travel to colder climates, my knitting has tended to focus on accessories. I was bitten by the sock knitting bug in 1999, and have been making my own socks since then. Yes, I know I can get socks on the cheap at a box store - but those socks won´t be shaped precisely to fit my own feet, and they won´t be made from luscious, often hand-dyed fibers! And, as my friends can attest, there is no nicer gift than hand-knit socks - or hats or mitts made with beautiful sock yarn.

Also because of my location, I´m very much interested in lace knitting in any shape or form. A mesh cover-up fashioned from an elegant blend of rayon and linen? A shawl pattern that incorporates paisley shapes interpreted in yarn-overs? Yes please!

I love the history of handiwork and the way in which culture affects art.On my page you will find information about Fair Isle patterns, Japanese lace stitches, and Andean chullos. You will also find information about the techniques that underlie these and other traditional knitting styles from around the world. I am passionate about knitting, and can´t wait to share my knowledge with you.

Finally, as a woman outside ´normal´ sizing (I´m personally short and stout), I understand the frustrations associated with knitting a garment in the hopes that it will fit. I want to share how to customize patterns, how to incorporate beautiful stitches into standard designs, and how to strike out into the design universe altogether. Knitting is a creative endeavor, and it´s so wonderful to be able to make things our own way.

I´m thrilled that you´re here on my page to join me in this journey, and I welcome your ideas and suggestions along the way!
